BIRAC BIG (Biotechnology Ignition Grant)

BIRAC's flagship grant program supporting early-stage biotech startups for converting innovative ideas into proof-of-concept, prototypes, and commercial products. Administered through BIRAC's network of roughly eight BIG Partner incubators, this grant funds up to ₹50 lakh over an 18-month period with funds released against pre-agreed technical milestones rather than in one instalment, and BIG Partners provide continuous mentoring and monitoring throughout — not just at selection. Its scope covers biotechnology, healthcare, life sciences and medtech applicants broadly, making it one of the more sector-flexible entry points into BIRAC's grant ecosystem compared to more narrowly targeted schemes like SITARE-GYTI. Applicants should expect the BIG Partner (not BIRAC directly) to be their primary point of contact for both application support and ongoing compliance.
