BIRAC SITARE-GYTI

SITARE-GYTI (Students Innovations for Translation and Advancement of Research Explorations) supports student innovators with high-potential biotech and life-science ideas. Selected students receive grant support up to Rs 15 lakh along with mentoring to translate research into proof-of-concept. SITARE-GYTI is one of two tracks under the broader Gandhian Young Technological Innovation Awards (the other, SRISTI-GYTI, is run separately), and has historically supported 15 student innovators annually in the medical and healthcare category with grants up to ₹15 lakh each. BIRAC's involvement in this specific award track has since concluded, with SITARE-GYTI submissions now channelled through the unified GYTI platform rather than a standalone BIRAC call — applicants should confirm current administration before applying. Past cohorts have collectively gone on to secure more than ₹10 crore in follow-on awards and investment, alongside dozens of patents and publications, reflecting the program's role as an early stepping stone rather than a terminal funding source.
